Am I covered by my parent's insurance while I
have a Learner's Permit? Yes, in the state
of Massachusetts a person with a Learner's Permit cannot
have an insurance policy on their own. You must drive
with someone that has an existing policy like your
Parents, Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles. When you get
your license you then can either have your own policy or
be added to your parent's policy at an additional
charge.
Do I need a Learner’s Permit to
attend class? No, however, you will need to
have your learner’s permit before you can take your road
lessons.
What does the full program include?
For full time students: · 30 hours of
classroom instruction. · 6 hours of behind the wheel
instruction. · 6 hours of observation.
If your Learner's Permit date is on or after 9/1/07
the full program is
· 30 hours of classroom
instruction · 12 hours of behind the wheel
instruction · 6 hours of observation
How old do I have to be to attend
class? All students must be at least 15
years and 9 months old to start class.
How many hours do I have to drive with my
family before I can get my license?
Massachusetts students under the age of 18 must have
a minimum of 12 hours with their parents or someone
their parents appoint. Although this is the legal
minimum, students preparing for their license should
drive as many hours as they possibly can. This
will help them be better prepared for the road test and
driving alone. If your Learner's
Permit date is on or after 9/1/07 you will need to have
40 hours of driving wth your parents.
When can I start taking my road
lessons? Road lessons can be stated when
students have their Learner's Permit, complete class
successfully and have had some basic driving.
How long do I have to have my Learner's
Permit before I can get my license? In
Massachusetts, you must have a Learner's Permit for 6
months before taking your Road Test. You must have a
clean record during the 6 months. A clean records means
that you have not had any problems such as a ticket or
an at fault accident.
